Snow tires or chains? Consider buying both, but if you’re trying to decide which is best, snow tires can’t equal the performance of chains, especially reinforced chains, reports Changing Times. This advice is backed up by the fact that regular tires would stop a car traveling at 20 mph over loosely packed snow in 60 feet. Snow tires would cut the distance only to 52 feet. Regular chains would halt the car in 46 feet, and reinforced chains in 38 feet. As for traction, snow tires are 51% better than regular tires over packed snow, while reinforced links give you 313% tnore pulling power.
