Rappahannock Races
Set For March 5th
Despite a deluge of snow, frigid temperatures, gale winds, monumental drifts, the Virginia Point-to-Point races will be run. i The Rappahannock Hunt has just announced its 1966 Pointto-Point date, March 5, at James W. Fletcher’s Thornton Hill Farm race course, one mile south of Sperryville on Route 522, at 12:30 p.m. The program includes a full card of 8 races, including the famous Fox Hound Race. Oliver Durant II, Chairman of the Rappahannock Race Con* mittee, comments, “A new 3/4-mile turf race has been scheduled on this year’s program. It should be a WOW as it provides a spot for those fast huntin’ horses that like to win the hunt flat-out’.* The race is open to both ladies and gentlemen riding horses owned and fairly hunted prior to January 1, 1966. All of the seven other carded races are jumping races over timber, with the exception of the Junior 1/2-mile race on the flat and, of course, the Hounds Race. Owners wishing to enter horses in the Rappahannock Point-to-Point Races may get entry forms and rules information from the Race Secre tary, Mrs. Anthony Slewka, Boston, Va., Phone: Area code 703, Culpeper, Valley 5-0841. Also those wishing to make car parking reservations, (which view the race course,) and to order admission tickets should contact the race secretary.
