C&P is now engineering, ordering the necessary central office equipment, additional cable, wire and other facilities in order to implement the Commission’s orderwhich will result in major service improvements to large numbers of subscribers throughout the state. The expanded engineering and construction schedule designed by C&P for this work is in addition to other service improvement included in C&P's original construction program announced earlier this year. The additional expenditures required to make these new services available are expected to cost nearly $9 million. Beginning in June and continuing throughout the remainder of this year, some 17 exchanges will have their base rate areas extended. In this connection, about 8,000 custheir local base rate area. As a result, they will obtain reduced monthly charges since in the past they had paid mileage charges in addition to the basic monthly rate. *
