A 30-room school building will be constructed in Rappahannock to house the entire county elementary enrollment, about 850 students, as a result of action taken Friday by the Board of Supervisors at their regular April meeting. The controversial question of school construction needed to "conform with requirements of HEW was settled when four members of the Board voted for a 30-room building and the remaining two members abstained from voting. As explained by O. A. Norton, Superintendent of Schools *he picture of educational facilities here looks like this; The 30-room elementary school will be located on Route 636, just off Route 211 three miles west of Washington on acreage purchased last year by the county. Cost of the structure will be $783,000 and construction is expected to begin in late summer, if all goes well. Revenue will be secured from the Literary loan Fund of Virginia, though all will not be available at once. It is anticipated that the building will be ready for use at the beginning of the 1967-68 school session. An addition to Rappahannock County High School was approved several months ago and it is expected that ground will be broken for this project at the close of school this year. Cost of the addition which will contain four classrooms and a shop facility will be $125,000. A loan for this has already been assured from the Literary Fund. All high school students of the county will be housed here including the students formerly attending Criser High in Front Royal and Carver Regional High at Rapidan.
