ire famous 'round the world. Figures for 1965 show that over 375,000 people visited Luray, making it the most popular Caverns in the East. On two days during the year cars from all SO states were registered in the Luray Parking Lot. During the five-years that the Easter Seal coins were accumulating, about 1,750,00C people passed the Wishing Well. Nearly half of this number made a wish withacoin — 840,722 pieces of United States currency were recovered. Weighing over three tons, the coins sorted out into 638,597 pennies; 131,982 nickels; 61,734 dimes; 8,302 quarters; and 107 half dollars. Travelers from 53 foreign countries and territories also tossed their native coins into the WishingWell. Amongthese were coins from Uruguay and Paraguay; from Iceland, Greenland, Finland and Switzerland.
Some Luray visitors made their wishes on things other than coins. Parking discs, transit tokens, commemorative medals and mine script were all considered "legal" by well wishers. Bus riders from Port Huron, Michigan to Newport News, Virginia wished on transit tokens. Drivers from Orlando, Florida to Long Branch, New Jersey made their wishes on parking discs. Other individ
