A single vehicle crash occus red August 25th at 1 a.m. on Route 729 south of Ben Venue. E. A. Jones of Rixeyville operating a 58 Chevrolet apparently fell asleep, ran off the left of the road and struck a tree. The driver and only occupant sustained broken ribs and lacerations of the nose and right arm, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin, investigating officer. The vehicle was declared a total loss. Jones was charged with failing to drive to the right of the road, said the officer. At the west limits of the Town of Washington at 2 a.m. August 28, a motorist struck and killed a cow on the highway. Christopher Parrish of Viewtown, operating a 1966 Corvair owned by his father, I. L. Parrish, struck a cow owned by W. A. Miller. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $700 and the animal was valued at $200. Jane Serena Larsen of Culpeper, a passenger in the Cor - vair, received lacerations of the neck and chin. She was taken to Warren Memorial Hoa pital by Rappahannock Rescue Squad where she was treated and released, according to Trooper Buntin. A 62 Pontiac Tempest was demolished by fire about 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening on a street in Sperryville. The vehicle was owned and operated by Beth Maxine Johnston of Beth esda, Md., and RoneevonGurten of Washington, D. C. was a passenger. Fire started under the dash of the vehicle as they were driving down the street. Sperryville Fire Department responded to the scene, but the vehicle was a total loss.
