the group. Some of the children, with the aid of special equipment, played baseball, and all had been given besfch balls and straw hats by the Jaycees. Later the group went to Mountain Green where they were met by Mrs. Cheatham and eon Arthur. Activities here included boating in a canoe and row boat, fishing in the farpi pond, and playing on a trampoline. They hiked over the farm and found special interest in the old mill stones, barns and orchards. At the close of the day, each child's name was put in a basket and a drawing held. A huge stuffed pink poodle ftas awarded a little girl and a stuffed tiger to a boy. The children thanked their hosts for a delightful day and declared the Jaycees couldn't have given them a more delightful day. For most of the children this was their first contact with farm life. The Downtown Jaycee Chapter is composed of about 500 members, and sponsors the annual Cherry Blossom Festival and parade in Washington each spring. Other activities
Eacaped Convict Captured In Warren County
Thomas Campbell of Wayneiboro, who escaped from a road gang working in Rappahannock last Thursday, was apprehended Saturday morning at 2 a.m. in Warren Couq-f ty by the Sheriff of that county. Campbell was serving 12 months at Culpeper Camp ll for non-support. He escaped when the crew was working on Route 621 at Woodville. Another escapee, Harry Lawson, who had been at large for 45 days was gpprehendedyesterday morning iii Washington D.C. by a city policeman, ana returned to the camp.
Cheater Gap Schedules Fun Carnival
A two-day Carnival and Fun Party will be held at Chester Gap Firemen’s Carnival Grounds Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3 starting at 6:30 each night. There will be games and rides for adults and children. The lunch stand will be open with plenty of good food. A country ham will be given away Saturday night. Also other prizes. Entertainment for young and old. Proceeds will benefit the Ambulance Fund.
