of this group are a Soap Box Derby, an annual boat ride for a group of about 1500 crippled and retarded children from Washington to Mt. Vernon. This has been done by the Jaycees for 32 years. Each Christmas the group raises in the vicinity of twenty thousand dollars which is used to take a large group of orphan children Christmas shopping. The Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind is a non-profit organization which correlates ao* tivitles and offers services for the blind. They hold a work shop for blind people where black ties for the armed forces are made and other items as brooms are also made. They promote a summer camp session for blind children and operate a day camp at Mt. Vernon College in Washington
Art* St Crafts Group To Have Exhibit
The Arts and Crafts Project group in Rappahannock plans to have a show the same weekend as the annual house tour scheduled by the Trinity Episcopal Churchwomen which is October 22-23. The show will be held at the Rappahannock County Library. All who have items for display are reminded of the upcoming show. If you are interested in exhibiting there is still time to make or finish crafts by that date.
Big Vote Urged
In Wool Referendum
All eligible wool growers were urged today to cast their ballots in- the referendum on the...wool and lamb, market* oeveioptrient program* n. 5. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, said that he hopes for the most representative vote possible. Growers eligible to vote are all those who have owned sheep or lambs 6 months of age or older for at least 30 consecutive days since last January 1.
The vote will be held at the ASCS county office through September 23. Voting may be in person or by mail as soon as the ballots are received. The vote will determine whether or not deductions will continue to be made from payments to producers under the wool program. These deductions finance a program of advertising, promotion, and related activities to enlarge or improve the market for wool and lamb. The promotion program is carried out under an agreement made between the Secretary of Agriculture and the American Sheep Producers Council (ASPC), a producer organization, as authorized by the National Wool Act.
