Virginia Apple L4 Harvest Nears ( Virginia growers have about completed the harvest of a small summer apple crop and expect to begin the picking of Red Delicious in the southern area of Virginia about the first week in September which is a week to 10 days late due to dry weather. The harvest of Red Delicious will begin slow ly and supplies will be light during most of September. However near normal supplies of apples for both cook ing and eating fresh will become available at the food stores as the harvest progresses here in Virginia and the nation. _ It is anticipated that less apples will be processed this year than last due to the carry over of canned apple products thus releasing a larger quanti ty for the FRESH market even though the 1966 U.
