Library Lines
The Trustees and the Committee Members of the Rappahannock Library met last Friday, October 28, at Avon Hill, the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan. Following a buffet supper the guests attended a Board meeting at which Library matters were discussed. It was proposed to organize a group, called “Friends of the Rappahannock Library,” for the purpose of stimulating county-wide interest in the Library and of establishing a permanent financfal basis for its operation and future development. T. J. Pillar Sperryville, was a p p o i n t e a chairman. With the activities of the Library expanding, the importance of the District Committees was reemphasized. Also, co-operative arrange ments with the existing school libraries were discussed. General Daniel Noce suggested at the meeting a plan of devoting a special section of the Library to books dealing with great men in our Nation’s political and military history. These suggestions met with much interest. Plans were made for continuing programs at the Library featuring various exhibits, such as the recent Arts and Crafts show which attracted more than 300 visitors. At this occasion Mrs. Launah Smith, Sperryville, donated a painting of the Library which was placed in the vestibule of the building. Encouraged by the favorable public response of last year, a Young Readers’ Book Fair will again be held at the Li.^brary
during the first week Vof December. An announcement of this event will be published in the Rappahannock News. For the winter months, starting November 16, a change of library hours will be in effect. The Library will be open on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 D.m.
