The Rappahannock Historical Society will join the Rappahannock Library

The Rappahannock Historical Society will join the Rappahannock Library in sponsoring the activities for this year’s Declaration Day in the great American tradition of yesteryear when the 4th of July was a patriotic celebration with bands, fireworks and speech making.

The theme for the celebration will be “Rappahannock Then and Now.”

Starting at 2 p. m. in the Library there will be Exhibits by Rappahannock Art Students, 4-H Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts and any articles of interest connected with the past of this area which owners will be willing to exhibit on this historic day. At 3 p. m. Mr. Monroe Waugh of Raccoon Ford, Orange Coun ty will speak on the “Antecedents of Rappahannock County.” He will tell of the formation of Orange County in 1734 and the establishment of the parishes of the Established Church of England in this area between 1715 and 1740. Mrs. George H. Davis, Jr. will continue with the formation of Rappahannock in 1833 and the development of Brom fie Id Parish.

There will be a joint benefit Country Auction Sale startling at 4 p. m. in the newly restored building at the blinker light on Route 211 in the town of Washington. A large variety of items will be offered for sale, some will have been donated to the Library and the Historical Society, others will be presented on consignment by individuals with a percentage of the sale being donated.
