Driver Leaves Crash Scene Hitchhiking
A single-vehicle crash on Route 211 three miles west of Amissville last Wednesday, May 15 evolved into a mystery. A 1956 Plymouth ran off the left of the highway, down an embankment and struck a tree. The car was a total loss, but the driver apparently escaped injury. He hitchhiked a ride to Amissville and then on to Culpeper according to Trooper W. A. Buntin who investigated. He has not been located since. A check disclosed the vehicle, bearing South Carolina tags which were registered to an Oldsmobile, had passed through several owner sand was finally registered to a name at a fictitious Virginia address.
