BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County, Virginia does hereby propose for adoption at its next regular meeting to be held on the 7th day of June, 1958, the following amendment to the subdivision Ordinance of Rappahannock County, Virginia; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board directs the Clerk to give proper notice, in the Rappahannock News, of its intention to pass said amendment at its Regular June Meeting to be held on June 7, 1958, pursuant to Section 15.1-431 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE
Rappahannock County, Virginia
WHEREAS, an ordinance to regulate the subdivision of property into lots, streets, alleys and other public areas, to provide for the making and recording of plats of such subdivisions and the certification of same and provide for the approval of plats was adopted and passed by the Board of Supervisors on the 3rd day of January, 1962, for the county aforesaid, and amended the 25th day of April, 1964; and,
WHEREAS, by the act known as the Planning, Subdivision of Land and Zoning Act found in the (’ode of Virginia 1950, as amended, Title 15.1, Chapter 11, Article 7, the Board of Supervisors of Raj pahannock County is authorized to adopt and amend said ordinance; therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County, that Section 1 of the Subdivision Ordinance of Rappahannock County, be amended and reenacted as follows: 1-1 PURPOSE. The purpose of this ordinance as amended is to establish certain subdivision regulations, standards and procedures for the subdivision of land within the unincorporated portions of Rappahannock County, Virginia, and such of its environs as conic within a distance of two (2) miles from the corporate limits of the incorporated town of Washington, Virginia, as provided for by Section 15.1-468, of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.
These are part of a long range plan to guide and facilitate the orderly beneficial growth of the community, and to promote the public health, safety, convenience, comfort, prosperity and general welfare. More specifically, the purposes of these standards and procedures are to provide a guide for the change that occurs when lands and acreage become urban in character as a result of development for residential, business or industrial purposes, to provide assurance that the purchasers of lots are buying a commodity that is suitable for development and use; and to make possible the provision of public s« rvices in safe, adequate and efficient manner. Subdivided land sooner or later becomes in public responsibility in that roads and **treets must be maintained and iiuiiktiui.' public services customary to urban areas must be provided. This ordinance assists the county in meeting these responsibilities. ThU ordinance is known and may be cited a- the “Subdivision Ordinance of Rappahannock County” or the “Rappahannock County Subdivision Ordinance.”
