Veterans News
All veterans and widows who receive nonservice connected pension or death pension and parents who receive Death Indemnity Compensation will receive an annual income questionnaire with the VA check for October which they will receive on November 1.
Pension and death pension under both the “old” and “new” pension laws, and Death Indemnity Compensation for parents are subject to income limitations. TTie VA checks on income each year by sending an annual income questionnaire to each individual who is receiving a check for one of these benefits.
Beginning January 1, 1969, the annual income limitations governing the entitlement to VA pensions and dependency benefits will be raised $200. Further, the present income levels, with three graduations, used in determining the amount of benefits a recipient may be paid, will be restructured to provide a range of 13 to 28 income levels graduated in $100 steps. Payees are reminded that the amount of income they report for 1969 must be figured to the exact penny, so VA can place them in the proper income bracket. It is suggested that very careful thought be given to the computation of the amount of income that is reported for 1969.
Failure to return the annual income questionnaire by January 15, 1969, will cause the VA to stop the benefit check and create an overpayment against the person receiving the benefit. The VA may then demand refund of money it paid for 1968.
