Elect Two Presidents
As a prelude to the more serious business of electing a new slate of officers for the coming year, the Amissville Ruritan Club held its own private poll last Wednesday evening for President of the United States. Acting upon the suggestion of B. Settle, that a ballot be taken on the club’s Ichoice of the three major
| candidates, the members cast 18 votes for George Wallace; 8 votes for Richard Nixon; and 2 votes for Hubert Humphrey.
In the Ruritan election that followed for club officers for 1989, Gilbert Lawrence was chosen for President; James Harper, Vice President; Edward I,aw rente, Secretary; and the incumbent Treasurer, Farrell Nicholas, was re-elected. Stanley Settle was the new choice for Director.
An innovation in this year’s planning called for the honoring of one member as the Ruritan of the Year. L. J. Davis, past president and the present Zone Governor, was awarded this tribute by the club.
In recognition of the church support by the Amissville Club, the members planned to attend the revival service of the local Baptist Church in a body on Wednesday evening.
'Die report for the horse show given by Allen Cooper showed everything on “go”. Originally set for this past Saturday, and rained out, the show is now scheduled for Saturday, October 26. Work iteams were organized to handle the food service, parking, duties in the ring and all other needs pertaining to the show.
