Question of the Week: “Should I mow this year’s weeds before spraying my pastures this fall for weed control or afterwards?”
Due to the wonderful season we had last summer, most pastures have a dense growth of weeds. To mow such a growth before applying 2, 4-D would be like covering the susceptible weeds with a blanket, little chemical would actually hit the target. Mowing pastures at this season only improves appearance as all weeds produced in 1968 have matured and most seed has shattered to the ground.
Last week was the first time in 29 Calf Sales the price received for “Good” grade steer calves was higher than that paid for “A’s” or “AA’s”. Why? Perhaps this was a freak situation, nevertheless we shall be looking forward to getting a report of all sales in the state to see if this was the case anywhere else in Virginia.
