Feed Grain Program
Operating details of the 1969 voluntary feed grain program are now available to all producers, according to H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee.
The 1969 program, announced December 26 by Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman, is virtually identical to that of the 1968 — the only major difference being that barley is included in the program this year. Producers of feed grains may participate in the 1969 program by reducing their total base acreage by at least 20 percent. This will make them eligible for the program benefits of price-support loans and payments. Additional acreage diversion for payment — up to 50 percent of the base — will also be encouraged. Signup will be conducted simultaneously for the feed grain, and wheat programs from February 3 to March 21.
Key provisions of the 1969 feed grain program are:
1. ) Acreage diversion to conserving use to qualify for price-support loans and payments is continued at 20 percent of a farmer’s base acreage of com, sorghum and barley. No diversion payment will be made for this minimum diversion, except for small base farms — the same as in 1966-68.
2. Additional acreage diversion for payment will be possible up to a total of 50 percent of the base or 25 acres, whichever is larger, the same as in 1968. The acreage diversion payment rate will be at 45 percent of the total price support (loan level plus payment) multiplied by the projected yield.
3. ) As in 1966-68, a farm with a base of 25 acres or less will receive payments on the first 20 percent acreage diversion at a rate of 20 percent of the acreage diversion at a rate of 20 percent of the total support times yield, and at a regular 45 percent payment on the remaining acreage diverted to conserving use.
