Washington, D. C. were week-end quests of Mrs. Wilt’s brother-in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Clark and family. Robert L. Massie, Jr., a graduate student at the University af Maryland, spent several days of the mid-semester break .with his mother Mrs. F. W. Spalding. Miss Martha Smith of Richmond was the week-end >uest of Mrs. G. W. Smith, Jr. and son Charlie Smith. On Sunday the smiths and guest spent the day at he home of Mrs. Smith^s_niece Mrs. W. B. Jarrell and Mr. Jarrell it Mt. Meridian.
Bear Kill Nearly Equal Last Year’s
Big game kill tags from all of Virginia except the Dismal Swamp reveal that hunters bagged 332 bears in the state last season, reports Commission Game Division Chief R. H. Cross. This is nearly equal to the prior year’s good take of 346 bruin and the fourth highest kill in recent times. Since Union Camp Corporation closed their Dismal Swamp lands to bear hunting last Tall, jjo appreciable bear kill is expected from this section. The highest kill was reported from Augusta County where 52 bears were bagged. In Rockingham hunters downed 41 bears while Alleghany County ranked third with a take of 31. Ibis was the second year that aear season opened a week ahead r>f deer season in Virginia.
