Receives DAR Award
Janet Hackley of Amissville has received the Good Citizen Award given by the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. This award is given a senior at Rappahannock County High School annually and selection is based on dependability, leadership, service and patriotism. The recipient is chosen by the school faculty. Janet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hackley. A like award was given a senior of Culpeper and Madison County High Schools. Presentation was made at the January meeting Tuesday of the Culpeper Chapter.
Freezing Rain Cancels
Schools Wednesday
Freezing rain Tuesday night left a slick coating of ice clinging to everything Wednesday and prevented the schools in the area from holding classes that day. Roads were hazardous all night Tuesday and prevented some of the Panther basketball fans from getting back home after attending the game at Broadway. A scnool bus with ball players and cheerleaders became hung up on the mountain at Panorama along with a jackknifed tractor-trailer and many other motorists.
According to Trooper J. B. Willis who was on duty Tuesday night, there were no serious incidents from the slippery roads in his duty area.
A single-car crash occurred in! the Town of Washington last; week. Leroy Porter of Washington rounded the right curve in fron of the jail, ran off the left of road and struck a' utility pole. I
