Panther’s Settle
Named All-Star

Rappahannock’s Bobby Settle has been named a member of the District 10 All Star Basketball Team. Settle led the Panthers in scoring, average and free throw percentage. His 18.5 average was third in the district.
Also named to the All Star team were Terry Taylor of Montevideo; Lloyd Spinner of Central and Bruce Tutt and Grady Arrington of the District 10 regular season and tournament champion Luray Bulldogs. Taylor led the district in scoring with 377 points for a 20.9 average. Spinner was a top rebounder and scorer and led Central to a surprising third place tie finish with Turner Ashby. Tutt did an outstanding job in directing Luray’s attack from his guard position while Arrington proved the top rebounder in the district.
A second all-star team is comprised of Edgar Ausberry of Strasburg; John Swink of Montevideo; Rod Burkholder of Broadway; Roy Reeve, Rappahannock and Jodie Wampler, Turner Ashby. All named are seniors.
Luray took the District 10 championship Wednesday with a 75-65 triumph over Broadway. The Gobblers had defeated Montevideo 79-51 to gain the finals. Luray will meet Midlothian High in the regionals at the University Collegium at Charlottesville and at present it seems that only Park View of South Hill has a chance to stop the Bulldogs from their second Group II State crown in three years. District 10 Turner Ashby also won the Group II state crown last year.

Investigates Crashes
Saturday’s snow was the apparent cause of a two-car collision on Route 211 four miles ,west of Sperryville about 10:15 ja.m. A 68 Mustang operated by (Michael Edward Cinnamon of Centreville and owned by his father Charles Cinnamon and a 69 Olds operated by Lucille Stroupe of Falls Church were involved. The Cinnamon car skidded on the snowy pavement and sideswiped the Stroupe vehicle. No charges were made and damage was estimated at $100 to the Mustang and $600 to the Stroupe car, said Trooper W. A. Buntin who investigated. At 9:30 p.m. Monday night
