ASCS Urges Avoid
Late Program Signup
“Come early and avoid the crowd,” was the perennial advice from Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Offices across the country as the 7-week period for producer signup in farm programs passed mid-point and edged toward its March 21 deadline.
Although ASCS offices in Virginia will take applications to participate in the farm programs anytime through March 21, producers are urged to file applications as early as possible, according to H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. The programs are voluntary and [ farmers sign up for them in order [to take part, Mr. Barksdale said. ] Signup brings into focus crop I plans for the year ahead. In short, farmers indicated their intentions to take part in the programs for 1969, including the extent to which they will participate in the wheat and feed grain programs.
Under the feed grain program for 1969, farmers may earn | diversion and price-support payments as well as qualify for price-support loans on their com, barley, and grain sorghum crops.
ITie wheat program provides diversion payments for reducing acreage below the farm allotment, and price support loans on all the wheat produced on the farm. It also provides marketing certificates to bring returns up to full parity on the part of t h e wheat crop allocated for domestic use.
