The monthly meeting of the Amissville Ruritan Club was marked by the usual good dinner served by the Amissville Homemakers’ Club. It was followed by a discussion of planned events to come and an excellent talk on the Agrobusiness given by Roy Teltzel of the Soil Conservation Department in Culpeper.
Mr. Heltzel showed slides and outlined a detailed account of the very important changes and new enterprises in the southeast which are the outgrowth and new phases of old-time farming. Automation in poultry raising and processing, in hog and cattle feeding and in the handling of soybeans and other grains for domestic and foreign trade gave a sense of pride to the Southerner and the ingenuity .which marked this startling progress from corn and cotton to turkeys and supermarkets.
In a business session preceding the guest speaker, plans were outlined for the club’s outstanding ham and turkey dinner to the public. This event is scheduled for March 29 and according to Chairman Charlie Priest, not only will there be an all inclusive menu, but also a very valuable surprise door prize, which will be identified in the near future.
The club sponsored baseball club will be confined to 8-12 year olds, but plans were proposed to make this team replete with uniforms and even a bona fide dug-out.
