In September approximately 1600 questionnaires were sent out to county residents, entitled the Rappahannock County Activity Interest Survey by the Extension Service and civic minded residents.
The purpose of this survey _was to determine county residents* interests on a personal, county l and general level; also their hobbies and free time activities; and whether the residents would be willing to share interests with other county residents. It was felt that this information would be helpful in working with county people from the Extension standpoint and also helpful to civic clubs and organizations.
Approximately 50% of the questions were returned by mail and gathered by interviewers.
The findings of the survey are as follows: The majority of the questionnaires were returned in the 50-59 age group and also over 60 age group.
There were varied occupations compiled from the questionnaires with the greater majority of persons employed outside the county. There was also a large percentage of retirees noted in the results.
In the section relating to interests, answers were varied, especially on personal and general level. On the county level many people stressed concern over schools, law enforcement, lack of industry in the county, road conditions, lack of medical and dental facilities, and lack of recreational opportunities for adults and youth.
