The lenses of all donated eyeglasses are then measured optically and filed according to prescription measurement. In this way, the Lions are able to maintain lenses of almost every possible prescription measurement for immediate shipment to competent agencies requesting them for patients who cannot afford needed eyeglasses.
Eyeglass frames which are in good condition or in need of only minor repair are also used in this program.
The free eyeglass program is now in operation under Lions sponsorship throughout United States. Many eyeglasses are also shipped to a number of foreign countries.
Those wishing to donate old eyeglasses to this Lions project are asked to contact any member of their local Lions Club. Donors not acquainted with a local Lion can get the name of the president of a nearby club from their Chamber of Commerce.
