Ruritans Plan July Fourth Celebration
The Amissville Ruritan Club will stage a Fourth of July Celebration in connection with the annual 4th barbecue this year. Among activities scheduled for the celebration are the ap pearance of a noted service band, a Congressional speaker, a flag march and a contest for “Uncle Sam and “Miss Liberty.” The celebration will be held on Saturday, July 3 since the holiday actually falls on Sunday and activities begin at 4 p.m. Additional information will be relased in the near future. Plans and preparations are being made by the Patriotism and Citizenship Committee of the Ruritans.
Car Over Embankment
Charles William Ricketts jr. of Washington, Va. operating a 67 Ford backed over an embankment last Wednesday night on Route 522 east of Sperryville. He told investigating officer Trooper W. A. Bun tin that he thought he struck a deer and in attempting to back up to see if he had hit the animal he backed over the bank. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $600. There were no injuries.
Parish Church Women
Schedule Meetings
The Women of the Church, Bromfield Parish will meet quarterly in the future instead of monthly. The first meeting of the new program will be Wednesday, June 2 at 8 o’clock at the Rectory. Future meetings will be discussed and they will pass on the budget. All members and interested women are urged to attend.
Scout Troop # 65
Attends Camporee
Boy Scout Troop No. 65 under the supervision of Scoutmaster Dickie Wayland of Slate Mills, attended the Camporee at George Washington National Park from Friday through Sunday.
“Operation Soar” was the project which is a Clean-Up America program.
The scouts took an active part in the skits and enjoyed talks by the counselors by the campfire at night.
Members attending were Bill Kilby, Bobby Titchenell, Frank Coffey, Greg Wayland, Ricky Wayland, Steven Jenkins, Alien Smoot, Jerry Grigsby, Charles Grigsby, Douglas Cumins, Jimmy Swindler, and James Porter. Scoutmaster B. Gale Titchenell of Woodville joined them for the activities on Friday night.
