Not very often does the private landowner receive payment from a State Government for doing improvement work to his property--but just this will begin happening in Virginia starting July 1. The program under which payments will be made to landowners for improvements is called the Reforestation of Timberlands Program. It is being sponsored by Virginia’s pine using industry and the Division of Forestry. Over the past several years, the pine timber in Virginia has been cut 15 percent faster than it is being grown. It is hoped that the new program can eventually correct the deficit.
