Mrs. Charles K. Estes of Sperryville was the sweepstake winner in the artistic division of the flower show held Saturday and Mrs. Marie K. Hite, also oi Sperryville claimed this honor in the horticultural division of the show. This award is based on points accrued for ribbons.
Gentlemen who exhibited in the show did very well, it was noted. In the horticultural division, Raymond Johnson of Woodville received a first place on his hybrid tea rose; C. B. Johnson of Woodville placed fourth with his double specimen peony; Randus Fincham of Washington took a blue ribbon on a columbine specimen. Exhibiting in the artistic class for men, “Country Gentry’’ which was an arrangement using grain, fruit, nuts or foliage, R. E. Wood of Sperryville took a first with his attractive arrangement of bright red apples in a long basket with evergreen spears and foliage as a background. Charles H. Estes was second and C. E. Johnson, jr. placed third. Both are from Sperryville.
