Federal funds for needy collegt students amounting to $291,653 have been allocated to Lore Fairfax Community College foi the 1971-72 academic year.
Dr. David J. Palmer, Dean o Students, made the announcemen this week regarding the various categories of Federal ai( available. Amounts allocated to date an $14,000 for National Defense Student Loan; $51,853 foi Educational Opportunity Grants $162,600 for the College Work Study Program; and $63,200 foi the Law Enforcemen Educational Program (LEEP) The last item for Law En forcement funds has beei requested but not yet approved

Miss Linda Smith was presente< as Mezzo-Soprano soloist by th< Madison College Music Depart ment in a Senior Recital held a Latimer-Shaeffer Auditorium ii Harrisonburg May 18, 1971. Following the concert Misi Smith, who is a candidate for th< Bachelor of Music Educatioi Degree, was honored with i reception and presented a $1(X cash award for the “Highest in hei class, finest tonal quality, bes control and perfect diction.” This award must go to someone wh< has a background of instrumenta music. Miss Smith has given botl piano and organ recitals. Sh< spent last summer in Europ< writing a paper on old organs ant saw the organ once used by Alber Schweitzer. She plans to work foi her Masters degree next year a Ohio State University. Miss Smith is the daughter o Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Smith o: North Garden and is a niece of B J. Wood, Flint Hill. Her mother is the former Miss Nellie Wood ol Flint Hill.
