Dog Warden Jack Bruce was present with livestock claim reports, and the Board approved a claim for a cow killed by dogs.
Dr. R. S. LeGarde, who heads the Health Department here, requested an audience with the Board to discuss a dental clinic which will be funded with state and private funds, but which must be handled through the County Treasurer’s Office. No county funds would be involved, but the county would be the fiscal agent for the $1,200 administered.
Clerk E. M. Jones, requested repair of a typewriter chair in his office or the purchase of a new one in the event the present one could not be fixed. This met with approval.
A letter from the Crippled Children’s Association of Virginia made a request for a contribution which is allotted annually in the County Budget when it is established the middle of the year. The amount of $50 was approved. Virginia was one of several states which had been named by the Federal Government to comply with the one man-one vote rule according to the Voting Rights Act which became a law in 1965. The state has been redistricted and that in turn required the redistricting of each county to comply with the national order. This was not instigated by any local person or group, as has been rumored.
