Someone has accused *me of being a philosopher. Let’s see if I can qualify. A student of philosophy ; yes, I have dabbled in that study. One who applies calm reason to the conduct of life. Well, maybe. One who keeps his serenity under trying conditions. Sometimes I can keep my cool; and then - BANG! POW! BOOM! A person of judgment and practical wisdom; alas and alack, I’m afraid I cannot qualify as a philosopher. Sorry.
John Gardner has written: “An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity, and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity, will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. (I’m not a good plumber either.) I might say that I do have a certain philosophy regarding my present manifestation on this plane. I think my own thoughts, live my own life and will soon reach the transition into another plane. My life has touched other lives and has in turn been touched by theirs. Sometimes I wonder why a person ‘ticks’ in a certain manner, then the thought comes, ‘they are just showing their own individuality’. Clocks tick in various ways; maybe they are all good clocks. Each tick indicates a second gone, TIME tiptoeing into ETERNITY.
