Radio station WJMA-FM ir Orange will begin regular operation at 6 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. The new station will be heard at 96.7 on the FM dial and will duplicate programs of the companion station WJMA. WJMA-FM has been on the air with equipment and program tests since Monday night, Nov. 22. The new FM station is owned and operated by WJMA, Inc. which also operates WJMA in Orange.
Arch Harrison, Jr., President of the Orange radio station, said the new FM station was installed to give day and night service to areas now unable to receive the AM signal in early morning and after sundown. The AM station is required to reduce power from 1,000 watts to 250 watts during those hours. The new FM station will have a power of 3,000 watts at all times.
WJMA-FM should be heard easily on home, portable and automobile FM radios within a 35 to 50 mile radius of Orange. It is the first and only local FM service for Orange, Madison, Louisa and Greene Counties.
