The Game Commission is ■esponsible for all of the fresh vater recreation in Virginia; for ;rout stocking, lake stocking, fertilizing. It must work to provide sport for the anglers of ;he Old Dominion and to do so must enhance the production of game fish in the most economical manner. As an example, the 218 acre Burke Lake in Fairfax County, last year from March until October provided 128 thousand hours of fishing to 55 fishermen. Lakes must be fertilized and managed properly to maintain this average, to say nothing of the projected increase. Fertilization has increased lake production from 20 pounds to 160 pounds.
Mr. Prosser, a native of Colorado, educated in the State University there, is undertaking a three year study on the lakes. He said that research and management were vital, but that all was last without effective law enforcement.
