Thrifty

Housekeeping

With the sudden approach of colder weather, we realize that the holiday season is fast approaching. Now is the time to get yourself into the habit of making your house work easier. Here are some tips to make your holidays happier:

1) Plan before you start to work. Think through the jobs that need to be done and when, when and how to do them the quickest. When you think of something that needs to be done, write it down. Don’t waste time and energy trying to remember or being sorry you forgot. 2) Save steps. Empty waste baskets from each room into a large grocery bag and then make one trip through the house to the trash can. 3) Divide the load. Let family members help with tasks suited to their ages and abilities. You rob your children of valuable experiences when you say, “It’s easier to do it myself.” Be sure, however to give children clear instructions.

4) Take time to rest. This is a thrifty practice that improves your disposition as well as your health.

5) Use the tools, equipment and supplies best suited to each job. When ever possible, use trays and serving carts to carry supplies. Make full use of your vacumm cleaner and dust mops. You clean by taking dirt away, not scattering it around. Whatever tools you use, be sure to keep them in good working condition. This will not only save time by making repairs before the equipment breaks down but it will also help prevent frazzled nerves.
