The meaning of the approaching season will not take its rightful place in the hearts ol men as long as they look upon themselves as being Greeks, Frenchmen, Blacks, Englishmen, and Russians. Mankind’s innei drives direct him towards a Supreme Being called upon by many different names in many different lands. However God is The Driver who directs all of oui drives or trips from the cradle to the grave.
Appreciativeness for a condition or some material goodness comes when one’s inner drives causes him to remember when his hopes of survival had vanished, and when he becomes willing to share with others because of his love for another human being. That kind of thankfulness is a sign that points toward God -- The Driver, waiting to take over when our little know-how runs out.
Our inner drives to achieve often causes us to forget the other fellow with lesser advantages; not thinking to care is one sure to say I am not grateful to God -- The Driver, behind all drives. Heartfelt thankfulness can be learned from an act of one of our late presidents of these great United States who would, after a long drive across the country, go down to the engineer of his train and shake his hand and thank him for a safe drive.
