That act by our late president also showed that he had not forgotten the history of our great country that tells us about the hardships, sickness and death the founding fathers and mothers endured to lay the foundation for our celebrated Thanksgiving Day. Their inner drives and God - Their Driver, started them out from England on a perilous drive across the ocean. They landed on the shores of this country that they called New England. Their first winter was the worst. Their food supply was just about exhausted to the extent that each pilgrim was given five (5) grains of com per day and there were only seven (7) persons well enough to care for the sick and bury the dead.
TTiat sorrowful condition lasted until God - The Driver, touched the hearts of a few who would be hostile Indians, who came to their aid and saved their lives. Many generations have come and gone since that awful winter, but thank God for a few real Americans who on Thanksgiving Day still place five (5) grains of com near each plate as a memorial to our founding fathers’ first Thanksgiving Day in the New Land.
The God-fearing people who blazed the trail for us were proud and thankful for their stamina and their inner drives, but their accomplishments against such terriffic odds say they were more thankful to God and His Providence. It is said in the 6th Chapter of Deuteronomy - O.T. 11th and 12th v., these words.
