Mrs. Saltonstall reminded the ?roup that the number one health problem in the nation is alcoholism and related drinking to everyday living. The first thing in infant is taught or has the natural instinct to do is drink. She cited statistics on the enormous spread of alcoholism which touches at one time or mother every individual. Mrs. Saltonstall stated that it is time, ndeed, that we begin to consider ;his problem as a disease and treat t rather than shove it under the mg out of sight.

She bemoaned the lack of study and research into alcoholism and stated that to date Alcoholics Anonymous is the most effective program in existence.
