A HIGHWAY Department attempt to justify its plans to replace an iron truss bridge in Rappahannock County came a cropper at last Thursday’s meeting of the county’s Board of Supervisors.
But if Resident Highway Engineer James Skeens appeared slightly embarrassed, he got the Supervisors ’ endorsement, anyway, for tearing down the old bridge at Laurel Mills and replacing it with a new, concrete structure.
He had first wanted them to do it by a resolution including a “whereas” stating that “the bridge has questionable strength when used by a loaded school bus.”
