MILLER NOTED that the original protestor had dropped her original questions, “so that’s that,” but Mrs. Coates made a motion that Skeens’s suggested resolution be passed: The vote was unanimous.

Miller then turned to School Superintendent O.A. Norton.

“We’ve been told officially that the bridge is questionable for safety purposes, and I don’t think we should use it any more for school bus traffic.”

“You mean starting this afternoon?” Norton replied, stunned, talking of the difficulty of re-routing the buses, informing drivers in time, &c.

“Then the buses should be off-loaded, and the children walked across and reboard the bus on the other side,” said Miller. “We should go on record that no more buses should cross that bridge.”

“The bus isn’t even loaded when it goes across that bridge, ’ ’ Norton protested.

DUCKING HIS head a little, Skeens promised that he’d get his engineers to “re-check the bridge to see if there is a danger... There may be enough of a safety factor..

“There’s only three days left” in the school year, Norton added.
