Virginia ranks first in the Nation in the planting of trees for reforestation of privately owned forest lartdMore
than 32,500 acres were planted with commercially important forest tree seedlings. This acreage does not include the 35,000 acres planted by large forest industries, the 3,000 acres planted on Federally owned lands, or the 1,400 acres planted on state owned land.
The grand total for reforesting in the Old Dominion in 1971 amounts to 72, 000 acres. This information from State Forester George Dean was taken from a national survey of the 1971 reforestation efforts of private, government, and large forest industry reports.
