Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson has joined in sponsorship of a bill intended to speed the disposition of criminal cases in federal courts by requiring that trials be held within 60 days of arrest, except in unusual circumstances.
Provision would be made for additional staffing of courts otherwise unable to meet the deadline.
Prosecution and defense would be limited to two trial postponements, unless a judge decided that exceptional circumstances dictated a further delay.
