On June 3, the Plains Midgets and Peewees won their home openers respectively 10-9 and 6-0 over Rappahannock.
For the Peewees, Cecil “Bootsie” Allison hurled a two-hit shutout, striking out 13 Rappahannock batters, walking none.
D. Cummins and S. Payne had Rappahannock safeties. D. Wolfe homered for the Plains Cardinals — a two run homer.
Loving also doubled, driving in two runs. Home players Allison and R. Ball had other hits for the Cardinals.
The Midgets’ Blake Fletcher, the winning pitcher allowed no runs and only one hit in two innings. The game was won in the last inning with a two-run double by Snider.
The losing pitcher, R. Jenkins, struck out seven while allowing 8 hits. J. Jenkins was the leading batter with two hits and four RBI’s.
Miller and Dwyer also had two hits; Aylor got the other hit. □
