“But that means six possibilities that the bridge might go down,” shot back Miller. “And we’ve been told publicly the bridge is unsafe.”
As Skeens and Norton continued to take turns commenting on the problem that had been created, Miller asked if they couldn’t get some weight information on the school buses themselves, and report back before the meeting was adjourned.
Skeens and Norton were back some time later. Norton reported that after figuring the weight of the buses, as listed, and fi$q uring 25 children at an average weight of 100 pounds apiece, that neither of the two buses using the bridge would exceed 10,200 pounds.
“Then we’ve had a whole lot of discussion about nothing,” commented Chairman Newbill Miller.
SKEENS ASKED that the “questionable” phrase be deleted from the resolution, and that it be reworded to simply state: “The bridge has a seventon load limit.”
“Anybody want to change his mind on the bridge?” asked Miller. Nobody did; they were agreeable to going on record in favor of a new bridge, but they also amended the resolution to take out that “questionable” business. □
