Safety first?
VIRGINIA’S HIGHWAY Department is going to tear down the old iron truss bridge at Laurel Mills and put a concrete one in its place. They wanted to, so they’re going to, and arguments for such projects can be made either way, we suppose.
But we hope the Department doesn’t come up with anymore suggested resolutions for the Board of Supervisors, asking the county’s top elected officials to certify that a bridge — or road or whatever — is “questionable” where the safety of school children is concerned.
Especially when just a little investigation into the subject is able to reveal that this isn’t the case at all.
Now that it’s all over, maybe we shouldn’t belabor the point, but we mention it again because it does touch on a broader aspect of highway departments and road projects in general, and not just as they relate specifically to Virginia’s Department.
