“Labor Day weekend is the highest holiday fatality period of the year in Virginia,” J^hn T. Hanna, director of the Highway Safety Division of Virginia, says in a plea for safe walking and driving during the upcoming three-day weekend.
“Past years indicate highway deaths in Virginia during the Labor Day weekend greatly outnumber other holiday weekends,” Hanna said. “Last year during this same period, 29 persons were killed in Virginia, two more than the year before. This year we can and must reduce the number of Virginians killed.”
