Schools open
SCHOOL’S OPEN, proclaim signs along our highways which also remind us to drive carefully. School is open in Rappahannock County at the two consolidated schools, one elementary facility and one high school.
Enrollment figures from the local high school show an increase while at the elementary school a decrease is noted. About 440 students are attending the high school this year and figures from the lower grades school show a total of 745, give or take one or two.
High school principal Dennis Wingfield said, “All has gone well and the opening of school has been smooth with the splendid cooperation of teachers and students.”
All classes at the high school are full; some are crowded. There may be a few more students to appear at either or both schools after the Labor Day weekend and holiday, for some never arrive until after the official close of the summer vacation season. □
