KENYON PULLED OVER AT ETLAN. He had called his wife by radio and asked if she and the kids would like a ride up in the mountains. She had driven over from Slate Mills; the kids were pretty matter-of-fact. Daddy was, after all, the game warden. Only the smell was new.
“What you got there?” asked a fella (Tiling over from the store.
“A goat,” said Kenyon.
“You got a bear in there? Really? How big is he?”
“I guess three to four hundred pounds,” said the warden, not playing the bear expert, but wanting to get the animal up into the mountains, so the bear could drink.
