A whole tlocK of Kids gatnered at Foster’s apple and peach warehouse. “I’m goin! to see my first bear,” one said. “Here come the bear,” said another, when they spotted the truck coming down from the mountain, loaded down with a rust-colored barrel.

But they were disappointed. They looked into the peepholes and Kenyon warned them that a claw might grab out at them, but all they could see was darkness, and hear panting, and smell bear.

“Man does he stink,” said a boy.

“I don’t think the bear smells. It’s the rotten meat,” smiled Kenyon.

ACTUALLY, IRVIN KENYON wanted to get away from there, thinking of the bear, who was thirsty and emotionally whipped. Several of the Flint Hill boys who had helped carry the bear wanted Kenyon to release him about five miles away, up a road. Kenyon refused.
