A highlight ot the auction was the sale of an oil painting called “Two Women” by the well-known Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera who died some 15 years ago.
Spirited bidding by the owners of three galleries — the Sporting Gallery, Inc. of Middleburg, the Agra Gallery of Washington, D. C., and the Greer Gallery of New York City — resulted in the picture finally going to David Greer for $15,500.
Though small, 16” by 20” compared to the large murals for which Rivera is best known, the picture revealed his characteristic treatment and the lifelong “empathy of the artist with the people of his native country.”
