— RAPPAHANNOCK’S state championship cross country team began its second season this past week by participating in the James Wood Invitational at Winchester Saturday and a dual meet with Montevideo Tuesday.
The James Wood Invitational Meet was run on a cold rainy Saturday morning over a slippery 2.4 mile course through a Frederick County apple orchard. Charles Thomas started his running career here last year by finishing sixth.
This year he was second with a time of 11:43. Bill Taylor finished tenth to also claim a trophy in the large field of top class northern Virginia runners. Eighth grader Jerry Thomas, brother df Charles, entered the junior varsity division in addition to attending his duties as team manager, and finished a strong second in his first race.
