MORE THAN 100 former teachers from eight counties attended the fall meeting at the Marshall Fire House, September 21, of the District “N” Retired Teachers Association — comprising the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun and Warren, with Culpeper and Prince William organized during the past year.
Of the 400 retired teachers residing in the region, 207 are members of the association. Rappahannock, with 21 resident retirees, has no local organization.
A boutonniere honored the oldest member present, Miss Theodora Cox of Milwood, Clarke County. She is 84.
A “hobby show” toward which members contributed hundreds of original items of an artistic feature items of an artistic nature was organized byQ. Damon Gasque of Front Royal, district governor of Rotary International.
Gasque also arranged a panel presentation of five of the areas in which retired teachers are of special service to their communities.
Mrs. Harcourt Lees, Warrenton, outlined the voluntary services of retired tgachers to the local hospitals; Mrs. Mark Collins, Front Royal, explained their service to libraries; Mrs. Frances Mayse, Purcellville, outlined Community Instruction; Miss Bertha Norman, Culpeper, Legislative Service; and George Grove, Hamilton, Recreation and Travel.
